Disciplinary Procedure

What is Disciplinary Procedure ?

‘Disciplinary Procedure’ refers to the steps taken against an employee once they are found to repeat their misconduct after multiple warnings. Companies generally have a wide range of procedures depending upon the gravity of the misconduct.

Similarly, the disciplinary procedure might also be either formal or informal. An informal process takes place when the employee is warned of dire consequences, often verbally and discreetly by their supervisor. A formal process takes place when an action is taken against the employee after issuing a formal letter stating the rules under which the actions are being taken.

For serious offences, the employee might be suspended and even put under trial under the court of law. Under such circumstances, the employee might fight against the company and the law would decide the outcome based on the evidence provided.
