What is Crowdsourcing?

 

‘Crowdsourcing’ involves sourcing or obtaining work, ideas, votes, tasks, opinions, etc. from an extensively large number of people. Mostly, it is done online and the results collected can be used for the common benefit of everyone.

 

The people submitting the required data would be doing it on a freelance basis, or even voluntarily. The major advantage of crowdsourcing is that the company can collect the data of a wide variety of individuals.

 

Further benefits of crowdsourcing include savings in cost and the faster speed at which the company can arrive at the desired output. Some examples of crowdsourcing include Lego Ideas, which ask you to put in ideas for Lego toys. Another example is that of Wikipedia, which is written and edited by a wide variety of people.
