Déformation Professionnelle

What is Déformation Professionnelle ?

‘Déformation Professionnelle’ or ‘Professional Déformation’ refers to the tendency of viewing the world through one’s professional eyes. It might be counterproductive in most instances.

For example, a police officer always tends to be suspicious everywhere. If he or she is not careful, this tendency can wreak havoc in his personal life and relationships. One needs to identify the distinctions between personal and professional lives and mingling one with the other leads to chaos most of the time.

The origin of the term is due to the fact that employees spend a major portion of their life in their profession and mingling with like-minded professionals often leads them to develop a ‘déformation professionnelle’.
