Application Service Provider (ASP)

What is Application Service Provider (ASP) ?

An ‘Application Service Provider’ provides applications and other services over the internet. These services and applications are usually rented on a monthly or annual basis.

The application service provider provides these benefits by using the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) architecture. This benefits the company renting the software as it can be accessed via a web browser. There are no installations required and hence, the maintenance and updating of the software are also undertaken by the application service provider.

This service model also works with Small & Medium Businesses (SMBs) since it costs less to implement a SaaS architecture compared to the traditional client-server model. Similarly, there are no overheads related to server and hardware maintenance as they are maintained by the application service provider themselves.
