What is Insubordination?

 

‘Insubordination’ refers to the disobeying of the orders of a superior in an organization. It might be done implicitly or explicitly by the individual being insubordinate.

 

In the workplace, insubordination used to be a reason for dismissal. However, with the evolution of workplace ethics and the decrease in the hierarchy structure, instances of actual insubordination have lowered by a great deal. The fact that modern companies permit free speech and encourage employees to speak against any kind of discrimination has also made sure that actual insubordination instances are rare.

 

HRs are the ones who act as a mediator in cases where a superior actually complains about his team member being insubordinate. In such cases, both parties are counseled to understand the root cause of the matter, and necessary actions are taken as required.
