Motivational Theories

What is Motivational Theories?

‘Motivational Theories’ refer to the task of discovering the factors that motivate the individuals in a group. Companies have a vested interest in applying the motivational theory to find these motivational factors as motivated employees are proven to be more productive.

Motivational theories can be classified into intrinsic and extrinsic factors, which directly influence the motivation level of the employees. The intrinsic factors are those that an employee has within themselves such as the interest in partaking in activities, while the extrinsic factors are the ones that are based on the outcome of certains actions such as rewards for some task.

An ideal manager would be able to identify the exact combination of the extrinsic and intrinsic factors that motivates a particular employee. However, it is not an easy task. Hence, companies involve certain assessment tools to identify these factors.
