What is Workplace Deviance?

 

‘Workplace Deviance’ is the term used to denote intentional malpractices aimed at disrupting the normal working of a workspace. It is categorized into two groups namely, interpersonal deviance and organizational deviance.

 

Interpersonal deviance is related to the practices that sabotage the interpersonal relationships between the employees. Some of the examples of such deviance include gossipping, lying, false accusations, etc.

 

Organizational deviance refers to the practices that sabotage the company equipment or property. Some of the examples include theft and intentionally damaging the company property or digital data.

 

An effective strategy to combat workplace deviance is to ensure organizational justice which ensures that everyone is treated equally within the organization.
