Distance Learning

What is Distance Learning?

‘Distance Learning’ refers to the kind of learning imparted where the students are at separate physical locations. Traditionally, distance learning used to take place by sending the study material to the student via mail. The student would then study and complete the assignments and mail them back to the university.

With the advent of the internet and faster connectivity, distance learning transformed into e-learning with virtual classrooms and online lectures. This also gave rise to Massive Open Online Courses or MOOCs.

MOOCs generally have an open structure with the students being able to learn them at their convenience and the grading being done by peers. Recently, the popularity of MOOCs has skyrocketed due to the accessibility of the internet and the proliferation of MOOC platforms.
