Natural Language Processing (NLP)

What is Natural Language Processing (NLP)?

‘Natural Language Processing’ refers to the ability of algorithms to understand the natural language spoken by human beings and intelligently infer their meaning.

NLP is a subset of artificial intelligence and it has gained momentum lately due to the advancement of voice recognition devices and the proliferation of Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri in devices other than the smartphone.

NLP is a complex field of study as it combines the principles of computational linguistics, machine learning, deep learning, statistics, etc. With the application of all of these principles, the machines enabled with NLP would be able to ‘understand’ what they are being told along with the intent and emotion of the speaker.
