Micromanagement

What is Micromanagement?

‘Micromanagement’ is the term used to define the negative management style used by some managers who scrutinize their staff minutely and control even the basic details of the individual employee’s workload.

Micromanagement is dreaded by the employees as it demotivates them and gives them additional stress as well as additional tasks in the form of extra daily reporting when none is required. Extreme cases of micromanagement might happen due to certain psychological traits of the manager, such as bullying behaviour or narcissistic attitude.

Similarly, micromanagement might also happen in cases, where the employee is being insubordinate to their managers or showing incompetence. All of these factors contribute to disengagement, reduced productivity, poor relationships and eventually lead to attrition.
