Emotional Intelligence

What is Emotional Intelligence?

‘Emotional Intelligence’ is the intelligence related to one’s emotions. It is defined as the ability to control one’s own emotions as well as gauge others’ emotions effectively and make decisions based on the same.

Although its measurement techniques, as well as its application in the workplace, are criticized, emotional intelligence generally helps an individual cope with others better. An individual with higher emotional intelligence will be able to understand others’ emotions better and this helps in team bonding.

Emotional Intelligence is generally measured using one of the following techniques: Multifactor Emotional Intelligence Scale (MEIS), Seligman Attributional Style Questionnaire (SASQ), and Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI).
