What is Burnout?

 

Originally defined by American psychologist Christina Maslach, ‘Burnout’ refers to exhaustion due to constant stress at the workplace. It results in a lack of interest in work leading to professional loss and even health issues if left unchecked.

 

Chronic burnout might lead to heart issues, memory-related issues as well as other common manifestations of stress in the body. It hampers an employee’s will to work, thereby making it harder to work and eventually, loss of work.

 

Employers need to train the management to distribute work evenly to avoid burnout. Similarly, the employees should also be trained in dealing with workplace stress as well as managing their workload. This will help in not only improving the efficiency of the company but also making sure everyone is treated equally.
