Algorithmic Accountability

What is Algorithmic Accountability?

‘Algorithmic Accountability’ is the concept that companies are accountable for the outputs of the algorithms which they create.

It holds the company developing the algorithm morally and ethically responsible for any kind of problems created by the algorithm.

For example, Google was facing a PR issue recently when their self-driving cars detected African people as gorillas. The problem was with the way the AI processed skin color. However, Google assumed full responsibility and issued a public apology even though the problem was unintentional.

In order to realize algorithmic accountability, there should be a government body that audits the source codes and releases them only after it undergoes the inspection.
