Tacit Knowledge

What is Tacit Knowledge ?

‘Tacit Knowledge’ refers to the kind of knowledge that is difficult to be passed on from individual to another using verbal or written communication. Skills like speaking a dialect, sketching, carving, singing, etc. cannot be taught fully since these come under tacit knowledge.

If one is to impart tacit knowledge, it requires dedication and prolonged contact between the individual imparting the knowledge and the person understanding it. In some cases, it might even require specific skills, as in the case of sketching.

Some kinds of tacit knowledge can only be attained through rigorous training or even improving other aspects which are required to be used while applying the knowledge.
