‘Managed Service Provider’ refers to the third party that manages a company’s IT infrastructure including the computers, servers, etc. The third-party who manages these hardware and software would be paid on a subscription basis.

The origin of managed service providers is in the 1900s when they started delivering remote application hosting services. With the advent of newer technology and the penetration of the internet, they eventually evolved into MSPs.
