What is Industrial and Organisational Psychology?

 

‘Industrial and Organisational Psychology’ is the study of human psychology dealing with the behavior of employees in the workplace to understand what factors affect their emotions in order to develop a more engaged workforce.

 

Companies would hire an industrial psychologist to understand the overall psychology of the workforce to understand where they are lacking and help improve their morale by taking the necessary actions.

 

However, a company may also require the assistance of an industrial psychologist for helping with job analysis, understanding the candidate’s psychology during their recruitment, conducting performance tests, conducting motivational sessions, improving team behavior, etc.

 

A major reason for hiring an industrial and organizational psychologist would be for improving leadership and it can be achieved by using a leader focussed method, a follower-focused method, or a contingency-focused method.
