M-commerce

What is M-commerce?

‘M-commerce’ is the acronym used to denote ‘mobile commerce’ which refers to the online market where products and services are sold and bought using handheld devices like tablets and smartphones.

It is a subset of e-commerce in which the market place is online, but it can be assessed by a desktop computer. However, in the case of m-commerce, the targeted user base is the one using portable devices.

The term ‘m-commerce’ was initially coined by Kevin Duffey in 1997 at the Global Mobile Commerce Forum where he defined it as ‘the delivery of electronic commerce capabilities directly into the consumer’s hand, anywhere, via wireless technology’.
