For many years, Women’s Week commemorates the achievements and contributions of women in every field across history. In every domain, women are taking charge to positively impact their employees and company and reaching the epitome of success.
Particularly in HR, women leaders are playing a substantial role in reshaping the HR’s definition, from merely being a primarily administrative job to becoming a more strategically central role.
Recently, we had the wonderful opportunity to interview one such distinguished woman leader, Ms. Selvi SK, HR & Admin at FFG MAG India. She joined the company in 2008, and since then focused on building a strong workforce that steadily enabled consistent transformative growth of the company.
Having more than a decade of experience in HR, it is no surprise that Ms. Selvi has had her share of laudable achievements and maneuvers. We asked Ms. Selvi to share her bewildering journey and accomplishments with us, to which she replied- “Currently, I am the head of HR & Admin functions at FFG MAG India for the last 13 years.
While starting out, I was always keen to pursue my career in Human Resources. In order to facilitate this goal, I completed my master’s degree in human resource management and passed out by scoring 9th Rank in Karnataka. I believe that education and experience add value that helps in taking up a more challenging role in your organization and help bring in a lot of systematic approach in the HR, Admin & IT functions.
I was instrumental in eliminating manual system for HR functions through implementing automated online HR System, Attendance management, leave management, Payroll management, Appraisal Module. Organizing various training for the employees to enhance their skills through short- & long-term training programs both technical training and tailor-made programs for business leadership.
This program focused on consistent training and mentoring for specific employees that helped to elevate from functional leaders to business leaders.
The other challenging responsibility that I undertook was the optimization of administration cost through various cost reduction measures & completely setting up the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure for FFG MAG India facility.”
Ms. Selvi is recognized as an immaculate HR leader who stands out for her strong leadership skills. However, leading the team comes with its own set of challenges and leaders often encounter many stumbling blocks in their career on their journey to success, and Ms. Selvi faced similar obstacles as well.
When asked about how she overcame the hurdles in her career, she confidently replied- “Any changes in the organization will also bring a lot of challenges, especially for the HR. One of the biggest challenged I faced was to bring all the employees on the same page and help them adapt to dynamic changes while adhering to the system in place.
It is never easy and I had to overcome many challenges that presented themselves in the form of resistance to change in my efforts to streamline communications and ensure that everyone toed the line. Ultimately, with persistent efforts, innovative methods, and a relentless attitude, I was able to achieve success. To those stuck in a similar situation, I would wholeheartedly suggest the same.”
From women leaders of today to aspiring women leaders of tomorrow, one piece of advice rings true – If you want to achieve something in life, leave no stone unturned in your quest for success. We hope that Ms. Selvi S K’s story would lend confidence to women everywhere who seek to broaden their horizons, fulfill their ambitions, and achieve success in their work.
