With so much to say about yourself and your career, the resume certainly seems to be the smallest piece of paper in the entire world. This is why it is important to pick the most impressive words for your resume to stand out and help you fetch that dream job without sounding a jerk.

Alas, when drafting a resume, most of the folks tend to get over-dramatic and end blowing up their impressions in front of HR managers or recruiting experts.

Well, it’s time to cut corners and keep it simple minus any jargon if you don’t want your resume to be a turn-off for potential recruiters and HR personnel.

No HR or recruitment expert would like to hear overly exaggerated adjectives such as ‘results-driven’, ‘dedicated’, ‘team-player’, etc. the list goes on and on. So instead of pitching out overstated words, it’s advisable to talk about your achievements or about the qualities that make you a great team player using active and simple verbs.

Here’s a list of 10 words HR don’t want to see on your resume-

1. Best-in-class, outstanding, supreme, and so on (keep away from such adjectives)

2. Go-getter or self-starter

3. Out of the box thinker

4. Dedicated and hard worker

5. Team player

6. Synergy

7. Eye for detail

8. Result-driven

9. Go-to person

10. Strategic thinker

So the takeaway is: when picking words for your resume, follow the KISS principle i.e., keep it simple and sweet. Make sure your resume talks in a lucid and active manner about your achievements, skillsets, strengths, etc.. rather than downrightly self-proclaiming yourself as the ‘best-in-class’ or ‘best-in-breed’ material.
